The Swift Water Rescue/Flood Response and Public Safety Dive Teams of Lower Kiski Emergency Services are volunteer teams geared towards providing a full range of Water Rescue / Recovery related services. The Water Team is comprised of a Swift Water Rescue/Flood Response Team as well as maintaining a Fully Operational Public Safety Dive Team.
In 2008, Lower Kiski Emergency Services took over the assets and personnel of the former Lower Burrell Wat er Team when the Braeview Fire Company was shutdown. The Lower Kiski Board felt that the Water Team was an important asset to the Region and was a natural extension to the Rescue Services offered by Lower Kiski. Since the Lower Burrell Team had a significant history of Dive Recoveries and attempted rescues, trained personnel, and the equipment necessary to perform Water Rescue/Flood Response tasks, they were incorporated into the Lower Kiski Rescue Division. The Team is currently working on growing the cache of equipment and personnel. The Lower Kiski Water Team is an active partner of the Department of Homeland Security Region 13 (15 Counties in South Western Pennsylvania) Water Rescue Response capability. We have responded all over Western Pennsylvania in support of the Region's commitment to providing resources to mitigate emergencies. The Team personnel have been trained through the PA Fish and Boat Commission Swiftwater Training Curriculum and many have attained the Technician level with others currently going through training. The Team trains monthly in some aspect of Water Rescue in order to maintain our preparedness and skills.
